How We Review Content
Belly fat and weight-loss content is full of confident-sounding claims that don’t hold up. Here’s the process every guide on this site goes through before it’s published — and how we keep it accurate afterward.
Start from established research
Every guide starts with a review of existing nutrition and exercise science — not the latest trending diet. We prioritize sources like peer-reviewed research summaries, government health resources (CDC, NIH), and academic nutrition centers over blog posts or unverified claims.
Translate it into plain language
Research findings get rewritten into clear, actionable steps a reader can actually follow — without stripping out the nuance or turning a “some evidence suggests” into a guaranteed promise.
Check claims against the evidence
Before publishing, we check specific claims — ingredient effects, calorie math, exercise recommendations — against the underlying sources, and flag anywhere the evidence is weak, mixed, or preliminary rather than presenting it as settled fact.
Add appropriate hedging and disclaimers
Health content should never overpromise. We flag where individual results vary, where a healthcare provider should be consulted, and where a product or approach has limited supporting evidence.
Review on a set schedule
Guidance changes over time. Published guides are revisited periodically and updated if new research, product changes, or corrections are needed — not left to go stale indefinitely.
What We Won’t Do
- Promise a specific amount of weight or fat loss in a specific timeframe
- Present a single study or anecdote as if it settles a debate the research hasn’t settled
- Recommend extreme calorie restriction, unregulated substances, or unsafe exercise practices
- Let affiliate relationships influence which products we recommend or how we rate them
How Product & Supplement Reviews Work
When we review a specific product or supplement, we look at the ingredient list, the dosage compared to amounts studied in research, red flags like proprietary blends or unrealistic marketing claims, and how the product’s claims stack up against what’s actually been studied. See our full supplement rating criteria for more detail.
